Perse celebrate girls in sport with This Girl Can week

3 Jul 2017

Last week The Perse celebrated the national This Girl Can campaign, with the Sports Department inviting girls from all across the School to take part in a variety of activities.

The aim of the week was to encourage girls from all backgrounds and all strengths to come and try sports which they may not have taken part in before. The timetable incorporated well-known sports such as rugby and table tennis, as well as some newer sports for the girls to try out, such as korfball and handball.

The sports encouraged not only physical fitness and strength, but tested other faculties needed for a healthy life. Yoga helped pupils practice mindfulness and relaxation, whilst boxing gave some top tips in self-defence.

Francesca Regnier-Wilson (Year 10) said: “We’ve learnt the basics now, so it has made us feel more confident.” Sam Ball (also Year 10) agreed, saying: “There are sports we’ve done this week we’d really like to see become part of the normal curriculum, such as football and ultimate frisbee.”
