The Perse gets magical with Potter-themed House Drama day
The Perse had a sip of polyjuice potion on Wednesday morning, and transformed into Hogwarts School for the Harry Potter-themed House Drama day.
The eight houses battled it out in the House Drama competition “Harry Potter and the Persed Child.” Each house was given one of the books to enact on stage. The houses performed to a packed audiences of staff and students in the hall, all in full costume – an impressive feat for such a hot summer’s day.
The Yales were crowned the winners, followed by the Unicorns in 2nd place and the Dragons in 3rd. Theatre Director in Residence Matt Hawksworth said of the day’s events: “The House Drama Competition 2017 Harry Potter & the Persed Child was a huge success. Pupils brought their creative and imaginative flair to all of their pieces. I was delighted to see so many pupils taking part: on-stage, directing, writing scripts, backstage, making costumes and getting behind their Houses. There were some wonderful comedy performances, contrasting with some very delicate and powerful characterisation. I’d like to thank everyone involved today in making the event such a hit and the positive spirit showed by all was a real credit to the school. Drama is alive and well in the hands of these young performers and technicians.”
One of the adjudicators was actor Tom Milligan, known most recently for his ensemble role in the hugely popular Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre on the West End stage. Listen below to an interview with him about what he thought of House Drama day:
