Perse golfers tee off at national tournaments
26 Jun 2017
Last week, three Perse pupils represented the school in the ISGA golf competitions.
The Perse began by playing in the Plate National Finals of the Match Play Tournament at Magnolia Park. The Perse team of Oliver Brunt, Oscar Earle and William Anderson finished in joint seventh place overall.
Oliver and Oscar then went on to compete in the national finals of the Junior League Tournament at Radley College. The format was a modified stapleford scoring system, with all players playing off a handicap of 36. The Perse finished with an impressive 121 points overall, leaving them in joint fifth place out of 28 schools. Oscar’s individual score of 63 points was the ninth highest individual score on the day.
The Perse team then joined together once again at Sunningdale Heath Golf Club, competing in the Junior Open, another national event. The team finished in eleventh place, with scores of 70 (+12) for Oliver, 73 (+15) for Oscar and 77 (+19) for Will. These were all excellent scores on a tough par 58 layout.
This caps off a superb year of golf for The Perse, especially at junior level, and the School is now ranked as the ninth best junior school in the country by the ISGA. Special mention must go to Oliver and Oscar, who have played every Senior and Junior event for the school this year and are both playing representative golf for Hertfordshire.
