Perse U13s Rugby Sevens have double success

17 Mar 2017

The Perse U13 Rugby Sevens have added to their prestigious portfolio, scoring at the top of the Berkhamsted Sevens Tournament and qualifying for the finals of the Northampton Saints Elite Insurance Sevens Competition.

The Berkhamsted Tournament is one of the highest profile competitions of its kind in the country, and attracts the strongest rugby schools from across the British Isles. Due to a change in the RFU rules, there were no “winning” or “losing” teams, instead just the guarantee that each school would get to play six matches.

Defeating Middlesex Schools 45-0, Barry School 40-0 and hosts Berkhamsted School 20-0, the team advanced into a finals pool of four schools. This pitted The Perse against some very strong opposition, but the U13s led themselves to victories against Watford Grammar School for Boys 20-0, Skinners’ School 35-15 and Warwick School, 25-10.

In the regional round of the Northampton Saints Elite Insurance Sevens, they seemed to set the pace of the competition, scoring over 200 points in the four games played, and defeating Felsted School in the deciding match 52-0.

The final of the Northampton Saints Competition takes place on Thursday 27th April at Franklin’s Gardens, home of the Northampton Saints.
