Bright lights and jazz hands: Thoroughly Modern Millie impressed audiences in Cambridge
Students from across the Upper School showcased their amateur production of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the ADC Theatre in Cambridge last week.
The Perse Players’ production inspired the students not only in their singing, dancing and acting abilities, but also motivated cast members to produce art based on their experience with the musical, such as Year 11 student Soo Yeon Kim who created this comic series based on the musical
The musical, a revival of the eponymous 1967 Academy Award-winning film, told the story of a young woman, Millie Dillmount, who moved from rural Kansas to New York City in 1922, planning to find a wealthy businessman to marry. Her agenda, however, went awry, and in a whirl of songs, dances and jazz clubs, her life was changed forever.
The cast performed to a full house every night and worked enormously hard to ensure the musical was an astounding success.
