The Perse School

Girls 1st XI Hockey through to East Finals

As Cambridgeshire U18 Champions our Girls 1st XI hockey team progressed to the East rounds of the EHB National Schools Competition.

An early defeat against Norwich, who snuck in a last second goal, made the following games ‘must-wins’ if the girls wanted to progress in the tournament.

A resounding 4-2 win against Stamford, with Freia Gould scoring in the first minute, put the girls back on track, regaining their momentum as they headed into their final pool game against Ipswich.

The girls secured a 2-0 win, with some fine defensive pressure, shutting their opponents down from the off.

The afternoon saw The Perse take on Queenswood, who had dominated their pool with 3 wins out of 3.

A win against them would see the girls progress into the East Region Finals and one step closer to Nationals. A flurry of goals before half time gave the girls a comfortable buffer. Sofia Baldelli made some excellent saves, preserving the clean sheet in the second period of play.

The girls stamped their authority on the game, winning 4-0. A huge congratulations to the squad.
