More than three quarters of GCSE entries are A*
Perse students and staff at are celebrating their highest ever A* rate at I/GCSE. More than three quarters of entries in 2016 (77%) were awarded the highest grade.
175 candidates sat 1783 exams. 94% of the entries were graded A* or A, the same proportion as last year, when The Perse was the top placing co-ed school in both the Times and The Telegraph GCSE league tables. Two thirds of the year group are celebrating eight or more A*s.
- 77% of entries were graded A* (up from 72% in 2015).
- 66% of students achieved eight or more A* grades.
- A third of students achieved a clean sweep of the top grade in all their GCSE/IGCSE subjects.
- 99% of entries were graded A*- B.
Congratulating pupils on their amazing results, Head Ed Elliott said:
“Pupils should be very proud of their outstanding exam grades, achieved alongside their busy programme of sport, music, drama, outdoor pursuits and charity work. I also want to thank staff. Perse I/GCSE results have improved in each of the last five years and are now consistently some of the very best in the country. This success bears testament to the skill, hard work and dedication of the team.”
There were some very high A*/A results in individual subjects, with 100% in several languages, 98% in maths and 97% in both English literature and geography.
In addition, 83 students in Year 10 took IGCSE maths a year early and all secured an A*.
