12 May 2016
Students Renzhi Zhou and Thomas Read, both Upper Sixth, have returned with medals from the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in Tirana, Albania.
The pair were selected from thousands of students across the country to be part of the six-strong UK team. At the event, Renzhi secured joint top position in the UK team, and a silver medal, with a score of 30, while Thomas placed third with 29 points and was awarded a bronze.
Of the trip, Renzhi said:
“It was an amazing experience, and very enjoyable to meet teams from other countries. It was a lovely country, the people were very nice. As for excursions, we went to a seaside town called Durres and walked about, visiting a museum and amphitheatre. Also, we went to Berat which had an ancient citadel at the top and on some other day, we went to some ancient Illyrian ruins. We also did some maths!”
