Success in Intermediate Maths Olympiad
Perse pupils have achieved their best ever results in the recent Intermediate Maths Olympiad.
This is a follow-on competition from the Intermediate Maths Challenge, in which the 500 top performing pupils nationally from Years 9, 10 and 11 are invited to take part. The paper consists of six very challenging questions to be answered in two hours, with the top 25% of candidates being awarded a Distinction certificate.
Twenty-eight Perse pupils qualified for the Olympiad, with eight managing to achieve a Distinction certificate. A further 18 received a Merit certificate for the quality of their solutions.
Yao-Chih Kuo, Lizzie Freestone, Alex Walker, Elena Cates and Robert Thomson also received a medal for finishing in the 100 nationally. This is particularly impressive for Alex Walker who is only in Year 8. Vikram Singh dropped only two marks on the paper, finishing in the top 50 nationally and winning a book prize for his outstanding efforts.
Well done to all involved!
