F.R. Leavis Society talks legacy in English literature
Last week the F.R. Leavis Society were delighted to welcome Dr Paul Dean (a former Head of English at various top schools and a highly regarded critic of Leavis himself) to lead a challenging seminar entitled ‘legacy in English literature’.
During this lecture he discussed the role of the critic and the way that attitudes towards criticism and ‘the canon’ have shifted over time. Students were invited to consider the criticism of Arnold and Eliot in relation to a variety of moving poems by Milton, Harrison and Hardy. The seminar was extremely well received and we look forward to welcoming our speaker again in the not too distant future.
