Marshall Society Economics Conference
4 Feb 2016
Over the weekend, 16 Perse economics students attended the Marshall Society Conference at the Cambridge Union.
The distinguished speakers included Nobel Laureate Sir Christopher Pissarides, Lord Layard of the London School of Economics, Paul Tucker – formerly at the Bank of England and now at Harvard University, and Jonathan Gruber of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who in 2014 was voted the world’s most influential economist.
The topics discussed were many and varied, from Obamacare to the economics of happiness, the role of social ontology in economics to the use of anthropometrics in analysing economic bargaining within families.
Our students took advantage of being in the presence of such distinguished speakers and asked many thoughtful questions of them.
