CCF Field Weekend
Last weekend, the CCF cadets met at school ready for a weekend of training and fun at RAF Barnham and Honington.
After certain members of the section had reunited themselves with an iron and some shoe polish, the group set off to their destination. Upon arrival they were greeted by Sargent Sanderson of the RAF who had helped organise what would prove to be an excellent weekend. The cadets were shown to their accommodation at RAF Barnham before setting off to Honington for their first taste of military cuisine to fuel them for an afternoon of rock climbing and shooting practice.
The afternoon’s climbing was enjoyed by all. Ruben Giuliani of Year 9 showed excellent determination and Ben Heath’s Superman impression also deserves a special mention. The evening was a chance to unwind with a game of bowling and Aaryan Ambegaonkar managed to win himself a box of chocolates with a super strike. The evening was completed by celebrating our quartermaster’s birthday, with a tub of ice cream with a candle!
The next morning, at their own request, the cadets were woken for a PT session before a well-earned full English breakfast. The rest of the morning was spent preparing for the biennial inspection. Lance Corporal Matthew Dougherty showed excellent leadership skills in drill and Will Anderson amazed everyone at shooting – the staff were not quite so good. The weekend finished calmly with sewing badges onto kit before some well-deserved prizes were given out. The group didn’t want to miss a photo opportunity on the way out of the base, especially not after all the uniform ironing and shoe polishing they had done . The cadets should all be commended on their excellent behaviour – for some, it was their first trip to an RAF base.
Special thanks must go to Mr Couper-Marsh, Mark Bradley and Sargent Sanderson for organising such a fun and informative weekend.
