Earlier this week, the Perse was represented by two sixth formers – Jamie Doughty and Ryan Stonebridge – at the English-Speaking Union’s ‘MACE’ debating competition, which took place at the Sir Charles Kao University Technical College in Harlow.
They were invited to the second round of the competition following a stellar performance in the first round before Christmas, where they presented a very well-argued and researched debate.
This is a major national event and it was a great achievement for the team to have made it through to this stage. Unfortunately the team was not victorious at this stage (meaning they do not progress to the next round), but they did win their individual debate proposing the motion: ‘This house would only allow people who pass a simple current affairs test to vote’.
