Music news round-up
11 Jan 2016
Welcome back to our musicians for a brand new term of great music-making.
We heard of several successes secured by our pupils over the break, and we congratulate: Sophie Littlewood (Year 11) and Pip Jackson (Year 10), both accepted into the NYCGB Training Choir; Stephen Beale (Year 9), accepted into the NYCGB Cambiata Choir; Iona Woods (Year 9), who auditioned successfully for the NYCGB Senior Girls’ Choir; and Peter Martin (Year 8), offered a place in the U13 National Children’s Orchestra on the French horn. We also congratulate Rupert Jackson (Upper Sixth), who was the sole organist during the Carols by Candlelight service at Great St. Mary’s Church just before Christmas – he played a demanding role in a hugely well-attended event.
We have a busy schedule of events this term, including several exciting masterclasses and recitals by professional musicians, large-scale concerts including the Symphonic Showcase concert at West Road and the special 400th anniversary 3-18 concert in the hall in March, and other more informal concerts. Upcoming events include our second Music Scholars’ Concert of the year in the new venue of Stapleford Granary, on Wednesday 20 January, a musical soirée in Melbourn on Thursday 21 January and the keyboard final of Perse Musician of the Year on Monday 25 January.
