Year 6 take part in Shakespeare Schools’ Festival
Yesterday, 24 Year 6 pupils from the Prep took part in the Shakespeare Schools’ Festival – an annual celebration of Shakespeare’s work in which hundreds of schools from around the UK take part.
This festival gives children the opportunity to explore Shakespeare’s works in a professional theatre venue, with a paying audience. This year, Prep pupils were selected to perform a 30-minute adaption of The Tempest at the Mumord Theatre in Cambridge, alongside two other local schools. Unusually for children of this age, our pupils used the secondary school version of the script, which features original Shakespearean language.
Last night’s performance was the culmination of weekly rehearsals which had been taking place from September onwards. The cast thoroughly enjoyed the rehearsal process, particularly working with theatre industry professionals in workshops and technical rehearsals.
Well done to all who took part in what was a fantastic performance!
