Success in ESU Mace Debating Competition
A team of two Upper Sixth students have won the first round of the English Speaking Union’s Mace Debating Competition.
Ryan Stonebridge and Jamie Doughty successfully opposed the motion ‘This House would only imprison violent offenders, and would give all non-violent offenders non-custodial sentences’. Not only did Ryan and Jamie win their challenging debate against a tough proposing team, but they also proceed to the next round of this national competition having obtained the most points for their accomplished arguments, deft handling of ‘Points of Information’, and engaging delivery.
Ryan and Jamie should be commended for their remarkably well-researched speeches which were delivered in an impressive manner.
