Prep pupils enjoy a visit from author A.F. Harrold

11 Nov 2015

1Children’s author A.F. Harrold visited the Prep yesterday to talk to Years 3 and 4 about his Fizzlebert Stump books.

A.F. Harrold is a poet, performer, Radio 4 regular and novelist who writes for both adults and children. He was named the Glastonbury Festival website’s ‘Poet-In-Residence’ in 2008, and ‘Poet-In-Residence’ at the Cheltenham Literature Festival in 2010.

Ashley gave a very engaging, humourous and interactive talk, interspersing reading from Fizzlebert Stump with reading some of his amusing poems. He gave the children lots of opportunities to ask questions throughout the talk. They posed some interesting questions such as, ‘did you have a favourite author when you started writing?’. Ashley also talked about the process of working with an editor, to incorporate comments and suggestions, and gave the children the opportunity to improve his first draft by thinking of some imaginative similes. He also talked a little about his book The Imaginary, which is aimed at slightly older children.

Thank you to A.F. Harrold for taking the time to come along and inspire budding authors at the Prep.
