Lower School play – Julius Caesar
Last week, members of the Lower School took to the stage for their performance of Julius Caesar, adapted by English teacher, Tiggy Tooze.
The piece was devised by the students based on a stripped-down version of the script that was produced by Miss Tooze. The cast performed the play in the original Shakespearean language and, in a modern twist, we are not using any costumes – just t-shirts and jeans.
The cast worked exceptionally hard to sensitively portray even the subtlest nuances of Shakespeare’s language and boldly represented notorious classical characters. In preparation for the production, the cast also enjoyed movement workshops, voice technique classes, Shakespearean language coaching and an entertaining workshop in stage combat.
The cast and crew put on an excellent show over two nights, captivating their audiences. There were notable performances from Cecily Tully (Marc Antony), Jonathan Black (Cassius) and Jess Painter (Brutus).
