French exchange 2015
13 May 2015
During the first week of May, 20 students from Year 10 visited their French exchange partners in the coastal town of Saint-Jean de Luz, which lies in the heart of the picturesque French Basque region.
It was an action-packed trip, with students having the opportunity to sample French school life by attending their exchange partners’ lessons, as well as going to a special reception at the Town Hall. Pupils also indulged their sweet tooth by visiting a local chocolate factory, and visited Biarritz, known as the continent’s ‘Mecca of surfing’.
Many students had a chance to experience surfing sessions or a ‘pelote Basque’ game (a court sport played with a ball using one’s hand, a bat or racket against a wall or over a net) with their partner at the weekend. Students also explored the area further with a train journey to the top of the La Rhune mountain, which stands at over 3,000 feet high, as well as taking a day trip to the medieval town of San Sebastián in Spain.
Many long-term friendships were established with the group’s exchange partners over the course of the trip, and our students were excellent ambassadors of the School and of the UK on their trip.
