U13 rugby 7s crowned winners of Elite Insurance Cup
Last week, our U13 rugby sevens team stormed to success in the final of the Northampton Saints Elite Insurance Cup.
On a glorious sunny day, the side beat Manor Vale and Ousedale School in their pool games, before beating Royal Grammar School Colchester 21-7 in the semi-final. Reaching the final, they went on to beat Cotwsold School 19-14 in what became a thrilling and well-contested match, leading to the Perse team being crowned winners of the cup. Both teams in the final showed excellent sportsmanship, demonstrating rugby values at their very best.
Hamish Brewis, George Doel and Robbie Dodsworth were superb in defence, which saw the side through against some periods of intense pressure from the opposition’s attack. When the Perse team had the ball, Ben Cross and Alex Albright created space and attacking opportunities for Isaac and Patrick on the wing. Isaac scored eight tries on the day, bringing his total for the season (including on the 15-a-side team) to an unbelievable 64.
This was a great result for the squad, and a just reward for the many hours of hard work they have put in at lunchtime and after school, having been superbly led and coached by Pete Anderson.
The boys will return to Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday 9 May to play in a re-run of the final against Cotswold school as a curtain closer to Northampton’s premiership game against London Welsh.
