Shooting stars

5 Mar 2015

Our Year 10 and Sixth Form shooting teams have recently taken part in the Four to Shoot Championship finals, and achieved considerable success.

In Year 10, Matthew Dougherty shot a magnificent 198 out of 200 in the second round of the competition, to secure himself a place in the final of the British Schools Smallbore Rifle Association Junior Championships. He is currently ranked in joint third place for the final, where he will be competing against the top 20 shooters in the competition. George Sanders, Andrew Hughes and Georgina Bush performed excellently, but narrowly missed out on the final. Their scores of 191 out of 200, 188 out of 200 and 185 out of 200 points respectively, meant they were still placed in the top 30 – an excellent achievement.

In the Sixth Form, Elizabeth Ramsay, Sophie Burrows and George Auty secured places in the final of the British Schools Smallbore Rifle Championships, will brilliant scores of 286 out of 300, 295 out of 300 and 289 out of 300 respectively. Gostev Vsevolod scored 283/300, just narrowly missing out on a place in the final. The top 20 students in the country will be taking part in the final – we wish the teams the very best of luck in the next round of the competition and look forward to hearing the outcome early next month.
