Pizza and proteins
Last week, seventeen sixth form biologists and staff attended a fascinating lecture on protein misfolding at the University of Cambridge.
The lecture given by Professor Helen Saibil FRS, from the Department of Crystallography, Birkbeck, University of London, introduced students to some of the latest imaging techniques being used to visualise defective proteins. She also talked about the importance of understanding protein misfolding for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and Prion diseases such as Creutzfeldt-Jacob.
Prior to the lecture students and staff met for pizza and discussed the science underpinning the lecture and potential applications of future discoveries.
This was a really informative session for the students, thoroughly enjoyed by all.
