Perse Players perform to sell-out audiences at the ADC Theatre
This week, the whole school drama company, the Perse Players took to the stage of the ADC Theatre in Cambridge for three sell-out performances of Our House.
The Perse Players’ production, based on the music of the band Madness, featured a 27-strong cast of pupils from Year 7 to the Upper Sixth, as well as over 20 members of the School’s newly founded Technical Theatre Club, who provided excellent backstage and technical support to the performances. The students perfected their song and dance routines, as well as the numerous quick costume changes!
These high-energy performances were the culmination of many hours of rehearsals since the beginning of term. Ahead of the show, the cast and crew were sent a ‘good luck’ message by actor Mike Jibson, who brought the lead role of Joe Casey to life in the West End debut of the show back in 2002. The School was delighted to welcome Joanna Lumley last week, where she spent some time with the students, offering advice and sharing her acting secrets.
One of the students who took part, Tom (Year 10) said of his time in the show: “My best memory is the way that all the year groups have been able to have lots of laughs with each other whilst we have been rehearsing – from Year 7 right through to Year 13.” Whilst Year 9 pupil Lucie said: “It’s been so nice meeting new people and working with them; it’s been a great experience.”
Director of the production and The Perse’s Theatre Director in Residence, Matthew Hawksworth said: “I am eternally indebted to this wonderful, vivacious cast. I have worked them hard, often encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zone and I thank them for their trust. We have had a lot of fun!”
Well done to everyone who was involved in this thoroughly entertaining production.
