French debating success
On Wednesday 4 March, Year 11 pupils from three independent schools visited the Upper for a friendly French debating competition.
The motions discussed were on a diverse range of topics, from the dangers of video games for young people to the role played by fast food restaurants in the nation’s obesity problem and whether banning smoking in cars when driving children is enforceable and would make a difference.
The Perse team of Jonathan Ferguson and Rosie Cates with their well-prepared arguments, confidence and quick repartee paid off, leading them to secure convincing wins over Bedford Modern School, The Leys School and Westminster School. A second Perse debating pair, consisting of Steph Budenberg and Sophia Rodrigues also did extremely well in the competition, finishing in second place.
