French debating pair reach national final
Yesterday, sixth formers Monty Francis and Tom Fane attended the national final of the Independent Schools’ French Debating competition, held at the French Institute in London.
Students from over 80 independent schools from across the country took part in the competition, with only 10 teams being selected for yesterday’s national final. The topics for debate were many and varied, with Monty and Tom debating the following motions: ‘Can we laugh about everything?’, ‘Is TAFTA good news for Europe?’ and ‘Should European countries develop policies to encourage a higher birth rate?’. All motions were debated en français bien sûr!
Monty and Tom came in a very respectable joint fifth place, narrowly missing qualification to the semi-final on the day by just one point. This is a great achievement – well done!
