Celebrating World Book Day at the Pelican
5 Mar 2015
Children at the Pelican have been celebrating their love of books today as part of World Book Day.
Year 2 took part in a book swap, where children brought in an old book from home that they no longer wanted. Once all the books were in, the children had time to browse and see which new book took their interest. Some books proved very popular and so some negotiations and compromises had to be made! Everybody who bought in a book left happily with a new one.
The children also eagerly listened out for the reading buzzer throughout the day. When the buzzer sounds, whatever they were doing and wherever they were the children stopped to take out their reading books for five minutes of quiet reading!
The children also enjoyed a special storytelling assembly this morning where the whole school learnt to act out the story of Charlie’s Bag using actions for key connectives and openers.
