Starter for 10 … senior general knowledge team wins regional final
Last night, The Perse hosted the East Anglia Regional Final of the Schools’ Challenge general knowledge competition, in which The Perse team came up against St Alban’s High School. Schools’ Challenge is a national general knowledge competition for schools, based on the format of the TV quiz, University Challenge.
In this exciting match, the Perse Senior General Knowledge team A, consisting of Upper Sixth student Hugh Goddard (captain), Pratap Singh (Year 11), Oliver Brigstocke (Year 10) and Daniel Morgan (Year 9), went on to beat St Alban’s High School, Ipswich 1080 points to 200, taking the regional final title.
The questions asked covered a wide range of topics from medicine (‘which bodily organs are affected by nephritis?’) to literature (‘who wrote Death of an Expert Witness?’) and politics (‘which individual currently lives at Beit Aghion?’).
This success comes after a three-way semi-final last week, which saw the Perse A team beat the Perse B team 700 points to 320, Perse B secured a 640-210 victory over Reepham High School and Perse A also went on to beat Reepham 780-320.
The team now goes on to play in the inter-regional round against the champions of a neighbouring region, who are as yet unknown. The Perse has held the East Anglia regional title every year since 2010, which is an outstanding achievement.
