Perse students set their sights on prestigious universities
29 Jan 2015
Sixth formers at The Perse School are set to progress to prestigious universities.
This year’s Upper Sixth students have received 32 offers from Oxbridge colleges – 12 from Oxford and 20 from Cambridge. The courses they hope to read are diverse, including STEM subjects, International Relations, Ancient history and Arabic and French courses.
Although Oxford and Cambridge colleges remain high on the list of institutions offering places to Perse students, sixth formers have also received 313 offers from leading Russell Group institutions including Durham, Exeter and Bristol. This year’s sixth formers have already secured 356 offers, still with several weeks to go before the 31 March offer deadline.
A small number of Perse students apply to prestigious overseas institutions each year and one member of a 10-strong university advice team specialises in helping them. This year one student has been offered a scholarship to Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa; in recent years others have received offers from top 20 North American universities such as Yale, Berkeley, Columbia and Michigan.
Head of The Perse Edward Elliott said:
“I am delighted that so many Perse students have been successful in their applications to leading universities. Their success is borne out of scholarship, intellectual curiosity and endeavour; all of which are highly valued at The Perse.”
