Viva España – Spanish Exchange to Seville
6 Nov 2014
Twelve Year 10 students visited Seville for The Perse’s fourth Spanish exchange with the Instituto de Enseñanza Secundaria ITACA in Tomares, near Seville, over the half-term break.
As well as spending time with host families and attending lessons there was also a programme of cultural visits. The research topics were shared amongst the exchange students and the oral presentations proved to be a real hit with the Spanish students.
The group visited Cordoba and its former Mosque (which is now a cathedral) and they also attended a music workshop in the Sephardic Museum. In Seville the students went to a flamenco show in “la casa de la memoria”, a truly original performance on a small patio where you could really feel the power of this art form. The students sampled authentic tapas after the show.
The students also visited a sweet factory that exports its goods worldwide. Breakfast at the small but well supplied ITACA cafeteria was extremely popular with our students, who sampled delicious “jamón ibérico”. The families were, as usual, very welcoming and generous, and wished that the students could have stayed longer.
The weather was fantastic and some families even took their exchanges to the seaside. All of the students enjoyed all of the opportunities presented to them, and had the chance to practise their Spanish language skills. The Perse is looking forward to welcoming our Spanish exchanges to return their excellent hospitality.
