Hockey success at The Perse
During half term three students from Year 11 were selected to represent the U16 Saxon Tigers at the Futures Cup which took place at Cannock Hockey Club. The Futures Cup is a hockey tournament where the four regions of England compete in a round robin, ‘winner takes all’ competition.
Zaman Akhter captained his side who won two games and lost one on their way to winning the tournament, with Zaman making an assist against the Pennine Pumas and scoring a penalty corner against the Wessex Leopards.
Tess Howard and Ellie Harrison’s side lost two games and drew one, finishing in third place overall. Tess scored in the 2-2 draw against Wessex Leopards.
To have three players from one school be selected for the Futures Cup is very impressive as the tournament showcases the best players in the country at U16 level.
In addition to this fantastic news, this week Zaman and Tess were both selected to take part in the National Under 16 Assessment Camp at Lilleshall. This is the final stage of assessment where they may be selected for England U16s.
Well done everyone!
