U14 netball tour 2014
20 Oct 2014
On Friday lunchtime 25 Year 9 girls departed for their netball tour to Bath.
The first stop was St Mary’s Calne, who were wonderful hosts providing U14A, B and C teams to play against. All three Perse teams made a slow start, the long coach journey having an effect on the girls. However, they improved hugely as the game went on and started to make better drives for the ball. The final scores were U14A 9-25 with Charlotte MacDowell and Poppy Thatcher being crowned players of the match, U14B 3-13 (where player of the match was Maddie Hartley), and U14C 4-11 where Lily Maynard was player of the match.
Saturday brought a two hour coaching session at Bath University performance centre with England and Super League stars Shaungh and Becky. After a quick shower and lunch in Bath the girls headed to see a girly film ‘Best of me’ at the cinema. After lots of sweets, popcorn and a few tears during the film, it was time for a bit of free time and shopping around Bath. Frankie and Benny’s hosted us for a lovely two course dinner with balloons and plenty of fizzy drinks before we headed back to the YMCA for our sports quiz. The charades round brought success for the defence team, and the teams headed to bed to be well rested and ready for another training session.
Another great session took place on Sunday morning, led by Shaungh and Becky, this time looking at defence and centre passes. The girls learnt lots of new skills and put them into practise in the training session, aftre which, the girls headed back onto the coach for the long journey home (with a service stop for lunch and sweets of course!)
