Celebrating National Poetry Day at the Prep
To celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 2 October, Paul Cookson, acclaimed children’s poet and performer extraordinaire stopped by the Prep to excite and inspire our pupils about poetry.
Paul is the official poet in residence at the National Football Museum and has been dubbed a ‘national reading hero’. He has over 60 titles to his name including Pants on Fire, The Truth About Teachers, It’s Behind You and Spill the Beans.
He seemed to cast a magic spell over the entire school, as all pupils from Year 3 to 6 were fully engaged and participated wholeheartedly (including the staff!) in his entertaining and amusing poetry readings. He inspired lots of fun and laughter during his visit, even receiving a standing ovation!
Paul’s visit has had a huge impact on children at the Prep where there has since been a surge in children visiting the library to ask for poetry books!
