Year 9 visit the Olympic Park
23 Jun 2014
The Geography Department explored the effects of urban regeneration with Year 9 in the Olympic Park last week.
The pupils toured the site walking through the landscaped parkland surrounding the Lee Valley Olympic Park, enjoying a guided tour of the velodrome and the merit winners even had the chance to swim in the Olympic pool.
During the day they discussed the regeneration of the region, urban hydrology and managing the urban heat island. In addition Dr Watson gave an insight into the origin of the Olympics in Ancient Greece, Dr McIntosh explored the forces at work in the velodrome and Mr Kirkham inspired his class with tales from London 2012.
The day culminated in the whole party taking the elevator to the top of the Orbit to look over the sprawling city of London.
