Music workshop inspires pupils at the Prep

Former pupil, Patrick Bevan, who is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, visited the Prep on Friday morning as part of an National Youth Orchestra (NYO) initiative called NYO Nationwide, designed to inspire young musicians.

He performed the 3rd movement of the Bruch Violin Concerto in assembly and afterwards ran a string quartet workshop for some of our Year 5 and 6 string players. Patrick’s playing was greatly enjoyed by both pupils and parents – the children were inspired by his confident performance of this exciting piece.  The string group worked with him on improving their communication, blending and varying their dynamic range. They really appreciated working with an older student. It was also an excellent opportunity for them to find out more about musical activities at the Upper.

Patrick is a Music Scholar in Year 10 at the Upper. He was the Leader of the National Children’s Orchestra Main Orchestra in 2013, and this year he is playing in the 1st Violin section of the National Youth Orchestra.
