Year 7 and 8 take to the stage for Daisy Pulls It Off
20 May 2014
The Year 7 and 8 cast of Daisy Pulls If Off were readying their gym slips, hockey sticks and—for some—their plaited wigs for last week’s performances. The play was a tremendous success and had audiences falling about laughing both nights, leaving the students thrilled that all their hard work had paid off.
The lead was played by the brilliantly talented Year 7 student, Jess Painter; on Thursday night she charmed the audience not only with her 1930s girls’ boarding school sense of honour and integrity but the way in which she was able to improvise when one of her hundreds of line briefly slipped her mind with hilarious in-role ad-libbing. Equally, Ekaterina Rahr-Bohr’s performance as Daisy’s best friend, Trixie Martin, reminded us all of her immense talent and incomparable comic timing. Daisy and Trixie’s arch enemies were played by Lewis Black and Ben Heath, who had many audience members in tears with their carefully choreographed slapstick moments and melodrama.
With these Year 7 and 8 students able to produce drama of this calibre at such a young age, we will watch these students progression through school drama with interest.
