Yale Spizzwinks(?) wow at workshop and concert
14 May 2014
As part of their world tour to celebrate their centenary year, one of America’s longest-established a cappella groups, the Yale Spizzwinks(?) visited The Perse to give a workshop to our pupils before an evening concert.
The group worked with 20 of our pupils on technique, warm-ups, beatboxing and their arrangement of the Beatles’ Let It Be – which the amassed choirs sung in the second half of the concert. An enthusiastic audience enjoyed a wide variety of songs, from 100-year-old New England classics to modern numbers by Adele, Bastille and the Plain White Ts.
Earlier in the day, the group and the Perse’s Head of Extra-Curricular Music, Ben Wingfield, were featured on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire on Jeremy Sallis’ show – you can listen to the broadcast until Tuesday 20 May here (the interview starts 1h9m in).
It was a pleasure to host the group and we hope that they can swing by Cambridge again on the next tour!
