PES Auction of Promises
14 May 2014
On Friday, 100 parents gathered in the school hall in support of the Perse Exploration Society’s Summit 12 Auction of Promises. The Auction was in aid of the Morocco Nursery Project, which has been set up by Sixth Form students in Summit 12. The money raised will be used to construct a large nursery school for the village of Arg, which is situated deep within the High Atlas Mountains. Much of this construction will be completed by the students themselves whilst on expedition this August.
Prior to the auction, around £5,500 had been raised through student initiatives such as a fireworks display, disco and a home clothes day. This was however £3,000 short of the total required to build the nursery school. The support from the School and community was excellent with promises flooding in ranging from holiday cottages to chocolate cakes and paintings to signed sports memorabilia. A ride in a pink Bentley was even up for grabs! In total there were 37 items to bid on which made for an exciting evening.
The auction was hosted by Mr MacDonald, a fine arts auctioneer, who kindly donated his time and expertise to the event. Under his expert guidance bidding was competitive and humorous. The evening was also supported by two musically talented students, Gabby and Soham who gave excellent performances throughout the evening.
The event was a great success, raising just over £6,400.
A special thank you goes to our guests for the evening and to those who could not attend but donated generously. Overall the fundraising efforts of the Summit 12 students has now totalled around £12,000 which means that the nursery school project will be going ahead. All additional funds will go towards furnishing the new school and providing teaching resources.
