9 May 2014
A number of Perse pupils have played starring roles for local club sides Shelford and Cambridge RFC in recent weeks.
Year 7 pupils Ollie Bartolo, John Hayward, Daniel Huntley, George Salisbury and Toby Smart are all part of the Shelford U12s side which has racked up an impressive haul of silverware, claiming the Bury St. Edmunds 7s plate, County Cup, Wendens Ambo Festival Cup and the prestigious Hilversum Festival in Holland.
Year 10 pupils Jasper Dix, Louis McManus and Tom Whitehead were all involved with the Northampton Saints U15 EPDG side that took on some of the finest schoolboy rugby players in the country at the annual Newark tournament. The boys prospered, coming away with the spoils against top quality opposition. They have also been busy in action with club side Cambridge RFC, along with Jack Chivers and Will Tyrrell, as the team claimed the Cambridgeshire County and Eastern Counties cup, as well as the Cambridge 7s trophy.
A number of the highly successful 1st XV were in action with the Shelford senior colts side on bank holiday Monday. Nick Cox, Hugo Dugdale, Oscar Giles, Toby Hackett, Harry Hitchcock and Tom Picton-Turbervill all starred as they claimed a 31-25 away win against Colchester RFC in the Eastern Counties Cup Final. Hugo Chambre also played for the Cambridge RFC men’s side that claimed the Cambridgeshire Senior County Cup at Ely Rugby Club over the bank holiday weekend.
