Summing up success
The Maths Department has been very busy over the past couple of months with a range of maths competitions taking place.
On Monday evening, The Perse Year 10 maths team comprising Rosie Cates, Pratap Singh, Patrick Bevan and Thomas Read won the first regional heat of the Further Maths Support Programme (FMSP) at Linton Village College. This means that the team goes through to the Regional Final, which will be held on 3 April at the Cambridge Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
Pupils have also had some fantastic success in the Intermediate Maths Challenge which took place last month. Around 250 students from Years 8 to 11 took part in this national competition where students took an hour-long multiple choice paper. Seventy-seven Perse pupils received gold certificates, 48 gained silver certificates and 45 pupils achieved a bronze certificate in the challenge, which is an excellent achievement.
We are pleased to report that a further 74 students have made it through to the subsequent rounds of what now becomes an international competition. Nine pupils have qualified for the Year 11 Olympiad (Maclaurin), seven for the Year 10 Olympiad (Hamilton), 12 for the Year 8 and 9 Olympiad (Cayley), 16 for the Year 10 and 11 Olympiad (the pink kangaroo) and 30 for the Year 8 and 9 Olympiad (the grey kangaroo).
Well done to all of the pupils involved and we wish the pupils the very best of luck in the next rounds of the Intermediate Maths Challenge.
