Perse success in Rugby School chemistry quiz

6 Mar 2014

Two teams of Perse chemistry students travelled to Rugby School yesterday to take part in the annual Rugby School chemistry competition.

Competing against 10 other teams from across the country, our very own Perse team – Perse Permanganate – won through to become quiz champions! The winning team was made up of Lower Sixth students Jamie Bamber, William Drake, Daniel Jackson and Hamish MacGregor. The second team we fielded – Perse Peroxide (Mohammed Zia, Elizabeth Ramsay, Sam Woods and Hamza Wahid) – also put in an excellent performance in the competition from the outset.

The quiz comprised 10 gruelling rounds on general chemistry knowledge, where the students were tested on topics from ores and famous chemists to isomers and chemical boiling points.

Both teams demonstrated fantastic knowledge of chemical trivia, and team Perse Permanganate were well-deserving of their win. They led the way from the second round of the quiz, finishing 13 points ahead of the team in second place.

Well done all on this fantastic achievement.
