Girls’ team heads to Lady Taverners cricket competition
4 Mar 2014
On Friday 28 January the U15 and U13 girls’ cricket squad travelled to the Lady Taverners indoor competition at Cambridge Regional College. This was the first time The Perse had entered the tournament and it was thoroughly enjoyed by both players and coaches.
The U15 squad, which was made up of all U14s, showed great skill and determination throughout the morning and won their pool with little difficulty. The final was a true sporting battle where the team needed three runs from two balls to win. With the girls’ positive attitude to running between the wickets which had got them so far sadly led them to a ‘run out’, meaning The Perse lost in the final by only three runs. The team showed maturity and passion throughout the day and hope to thrive next year when playing in their ‘true’ age group.
The U13 squad consisted mostly of U12s, and although they did not win a match, they learned a lot about indoor tactics and teamwork, whilst showing great potential throughout the afternoon.
We look forward to girls’ cricket taking off at The Perse this summer with many girls getting involved and becoming passionate about this exciting sport.
