Fingers on buzzers for Year 8 quiz

6 Mar 2014

Last night saw the culmination of weeks of hard work from Year 8, with the grand unveiling of their ‘Big Fat Quiz’, a fantastic charity event for students, staff and parents alike.

The pupils themselves designed the quiz night based on a diverse range of popular TV gameshows from Who Wants to be a Millionaire and Family Fortunes, to QI and Countdown. Each tutor group was tasked with designing one round of the quiz based on a gameshow, and divided themselves up into presenters, researchers, markers and designers. The pupils even came up with the questions!

The event raised almost £400 for WaterAid, an organisation which aims to transform lives by improving access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation in some of the world’s poorest communities. This ties in with the topic Year 8 have been covering in their Geography lessons this term – water consumption and production, and its growing scarcity. By taking part in the quiz, the pupils have been able to help provide solutions to the problems they have discovered in their studies.
