Pelicans visit Duxford Imperial War Museum

11 Feb 2014

Year 2 have been learning about Britain since 1940 over the past few weeks, and last week they went on their first topic-related trip to the Imperial War Museum at Duxford.

The children had the whole day to explore the museum that is home to an impressive collection of over 200 aircraft as well as tanks, military vehicles and maritime craft. The children were lucky enough to walk inside Concorde! The pupils were fascinated to find out that the Concorde at Duxford once flew to America in just over 2 hours! Continuing the wartime theme, the group enjoyed a ‘rationed’ sandwich lunch before continuing to explore the interactive airspace stations.

Despite being caught in a windy hail storm, Year 2 battled on through to explore the final hangar, a favourite part of the day for many, where they learned about the different tanks used during World War Two. The children had mini tasks to complete throughout the day and then reported back to their leader with their findings.

A super day was had by all and the pupils are looking forward to their next day trip to Stibbington.
