Perse netball teams compete in East Regional Finals
On Saturday, the U19 VII & U16 VII travelled to Hassenbrook School in Essex for the East Regional Netball finals. Both teams had been training hard over the past few months and felt ready to compete.
The U19 VII had a shaky start, losing their first game by a goal. They went on to beat Wootton School, Wymondham College and then drew with Ipswich. This left them in 2nd place in the pool, being one of only two teams in the pool that scored more goals than they conceded. The semi-final was against Boswells School, who had beaten everyone in the other pool. This was the best performance of the day by the Perse U19 VII, and although they lost 6-7, they played well.
The U16 VII had some tough opponents in their pool, and it was a tiring day with six matches to play and a squad of nine players. They recorded an excellent win over St Clere’s, and a very tightly fought 9-8 win over Norwich. They finished in 5th position, and should be very proud of their performance.
This marks a significant improvement in netball at The Perse; we were the only school in Cambridgeshire with two teams though to Regionals this year, and it was the first time a team from Cambridgeshire has made it to the semi-finals. Just a short step from Nationals, but an encouraging sign of things to come.
