MOOC featuring Perse students is now live!
Back in September, a group of our Sixth Form students took part in a day of filming with the University of East Anglia (UEA), for a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on study skills for university.
The course entitled ‘Preparing for Uni’ has been created by Dr Harriet Jones, Senior Lecturer in Biology at the UEA, and is aimed at Sixth Form students to help them develop the key skills required for a smooth transition to university. Thousands of students have already signed up for the course, which launches today on the FutureLearn platform. FutureLearn provides access to free, high quality courses from leading universities around the world, which are open to learners across the globe.
Course leader Harriet said:
“This MOOC was designed to help students understand what universities are looking for and the skills they expect of their students. We know there is a big gap between studying at school and studying at university, and this MOOC helps begin that process of preparing for university. Students from the Perse took part in filmed seminars with UEA lecturers and were a pleasure to work with. They responded brilliantly to the task, responding well to everything that was asked of them.”
The students came from a range of different subject backgrounds – from biology to history and English to geography, and they discussed the key skills required for successful study at university level including; data analysis, asking questions of material and essay structure. The students had some fantastic thoughts and ideas on these topics, and it was a thought-provoking day for all, and will stand them in good stead for their upcoming university careers.
