The Perse School

Mathematics success at the Perse

Last term saw some fantastic results in the Senior Maths Challenge (SMC) with a record 20 students qualifying for its subsequent round – the British Maths Olympiad (BMO) – and 15 qualifying for the Senior Kangaroo.

The following students can be particularly proud of their achievements:

  • Anthony Kattuman received a certificate of Distinction in the BMO
  • Thomas Read received a certificate of Distinction in the BMO
  • Nick Taylor received the SMC certificate for Best In Year 13
  • Alex Harris received the SMC certificate for Best In School, a certificate of Distinction and a Bronze Medal in the BMO.
  • Hoseong Seo received the SMC certificate for Best In Year 12, a certificate of Distinction and a Silver Medal in the BMO. As a result of his achievements in the BMO, Hoseong has been invited to take part in the Senior Mentoring programme whereby he is mentored by an external mathematician (often from participating Universities.)
  • Rosie Cates received the SMC certificate for Best In Year 10, a certificate of Distinction and a Silver Medal in the BMO. Rosie also came 6th in the whole country in last term’s Girls’ Maths Olympiad, a competition aimed at 6th formers. As a result of her many achievements, Rosie was invited to, and attended, a Mathematical Training Event in Hungary over the Christmas holidays.

We wish Hoseong, Alex, Rosie, Anthony and Thomas all the best in the British Maths Olympiad 2, which takes place later this month.
