Prep pupils wow audiences at Christmas music concert
13 Dec 2013
With an audience full to capacity and murmurings of anticipation, the School Orchestra opened the Perse Prep Christmas Concert of 2013.
Performing Rondeau by Purcell, the rich sound of the Orchestra set the standard for an evening of exceptional entertainment by the young students.
Five String Ensembles performed various styles of music from Baroque to Jazz. The warm sounds of woodwind, rich tones of brass, delicate sounds of guitar and recorder were indicative of the versatility of the pupils. The dedication of teaching staff paramount.
The Senior Choir contrasted biblical and ‘musical rock’ with their rendition of The Lord is my Shepherd by Howard Goodall and O Bless the Lord, my Soul from the musical Godspell. Interspersed with the music were very amusing poems which created a varied programme to the end of term concert.
Having been thoroughly entertained, the Finale was upon us – what superlatives can be expressed by the ‘wall of sound’ heard by the choir of Years 5 and 6? The original arrangement of Lloyd Webber’s extracts from Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat was quite simply inspirational. The resounding Accelerando was a flourishing final full stop to a dramatic and wonderfully entertaining evening.
