Performing Arts Workshop
2 Dec 2013
On Friday afternoon, the Performing Arts Enrichment group had a dance workshop with Leon Cooke of Billy Elliott fame (he was one of the first stage Billy Elliotts in London when the show opened in 2005).
He taught the group the musical number ‘Waterloo’ from the stage show, Mamma Mia, and – in a break from dancing and singing – impressed us with his amazing flips! Leon joins us after a summer doing the show Barnum for which he had to learn circus tumbling, tightrope and challenging rope work. He was a real inspiration to all of us thinking about entering the world of musical theatre.
Last week, the group was also joined by Jasmine Kerr, also in Barnum, who taught us the Fosse-style dance ‘Black and White’ from Barnum. It has certainly been a fun-filled, dance-based term!
