U16 girls’ hockey team reach national finals
Yesterday saw our U16 girls’ hockey team win the East of England Championships, and have so qualified for the national finals. What makes this achievement even more fantastic is that this is the first time a girls’ team at the Perse has both qualified for and gone onto win the East finals. The girls are all thrilled to have made Perse history!
Yesterday’s games formed part of a ‘round robin’ tournament, with the winning team automatically qualifying for the nationals, and the runner-up entering into a play-off with another region’s runner-up to qualify. The girls began the tournament with 0-1 loss to Kent College, with the girls putting in a good performance against the pre-tournament favourites. The second fixture saw us beat Bishop’s Stortford College 2-0, meaning we went into the final game against Culford School. The team secured a fantastic 3-1 win, and with Kent College losing their remaining game, it meant the Perse won the group overall.
This is an outstanding achievement and we wish the team the very best of luck in the national finals which will be taking place in late February.
