Perse pupil wins BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year competition
We are pleased to announce that Perse pupil, Laura Barraclough, has been named BBC Radio 2 Young Chorister of the Year 2013.
The winners (one boy and one girl) were announced during a special broadcast on Thursday 31st October, and the final of this prestigious competition was held at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London. The final consisted of eight contestants from across the country, who were all required to perform in front of a panel of highly acclaimed judges. Laura commented on her experience:
“St Martin-in-the-Fields was huge and it felt amazing to be singing in front of everyone there. I was nervous but excited, and when I sang I forgot about all of the people and the judges and just enjoyed myself. I really can’t believe that I won. It has been the most amazing experience and I’m really looking forward to doing more singing over this year.”
Laura received a trophy and lessons with a singing coach as part of her prize, and she will also take part in a range of performances and events with the BBC in the coming weeks.
You can hear the final of the competition by visiting the BBC website (the recording will be available until Thursday 7 November 2013).
This is an amazing achievement, and well-deserved – congratulations Laura!
